What are your hobbies outside of BJJ?

What are your hobbies outside BJJ. I personally have gone back and forth throughout my life with 2 main hobbies. Hunting and Rock Crawling offroad. I go through cycles with each. I am currently in a hunting cycle, and have been honing my craft at hunting over the last 5 years or so. I am finally getting better at hunting and have enjoyed some success over the last few years, and put some great high quality meat in the freezer. ![]() |
My wife's belly got big, and on two separate occasions, a boy child popped out of her. She says they are mine, but we never took a paternity test. They eat most of the food in the house. I spend most of my time earning money to replace the food they eat, and then spending my remaining time and money on them in one fashion or another. I also train a bit of Judo, Wrestling, and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu as exercise, and teach / coach a bit as a form of community service to pay it forward. |
Lots of cool and interesting hobbies here! Over the years I have been into drawing and sketching. I have trained extensively in other martial arts as well since childhood, including karate, and dabbled in kali and boxing. A couple years ago I picked up a guitar, just to see if I liked it, and true to form, became obsessed and now play rhythm in a band which rehearses weekly (my first gig will be in a couple months). As an aside, I started BJJ in much the same way: decided to supplement my striking training with “just a summer’s worth” of BJJ. And now here I am, doing BJJ exclusively. I kind of dive deep into things when I take the plunge. (Edited 6 year(s) ago) |
Main ones other than BJJ for me are DnD (I run a big online group now, thanks to meeting loads of other fellow geeky people at Globetrotter Camps, there are around 60 of us and we play twice a week. We also regularly play at camp: https://www.instagram.com[...]tterslive/ ), art (I love going to galleries: https://www.instagram.com[...]eyartpost/ , sadly I can't draw or paint myself though I've tried a few courses) and the usual stuff people say (i.e., TV, music, film, travel, etc). |
Judo, gaming, gadgetry, sauna sessions, and food experiences, especially those that are enhanced by beer consumption. I used to be in some pretty massive clans for PS3 shooters like MAG and Dust 514, which was a game set in the Eve Online universe. Dust 514 was made by the Icelandic video game company CCP. I became a community leader of sorts for that game, which led to me becoming a pro bono player-consultant for CCP for a period of about a year. I even traveled to Iceland for their annual fan convention, where I got to meet and party with the developers. Good times. |
Nice! Any particularly old ones? These are mine. Naturally I've made them more colourful, also laces are fiddly. :P - https://www.instagram.com[...]HiwUZAWSc/ |
"Nice! Any particularly old ones? These are mine. Naturally I've made them more colourful, also laces are fiddly. :P - https://www.instagram.com[...]HiwUZAWSc/" They look well worn for sure. I don't wear anything but my boots with the exception of running shoes in the summer. ![]() |
Nice boots, Dave! I'm particular about Red Wings. Had a bigger collection but came to my senses (small apartment) and sold a bunch last fall... The Iron Rangers in Charcoal or Copper Rough & Tough are my favorite. Other things... During the warmer months, I mostly renovate and spend time at my summer house by a lake. Wooden log cabin originally built by my grandfather 70 years ago. (With a separate sauna building naturally.) I'm into all types of (counter) culture, so I watch a lot of weird movies, read books & see shows (both music and art). Used to write about films too. 60s-90s Asian & Italian cult cinema is my speciality. A born collector, unfortunately. Have about 1,400 LP records, 3,000 blu-rays/dvds, and way too many books. 150 board games. I like hiking & outdoors, but doesn't everybody? Quite big on craft beer. Have homebrewed about 50 decent batches as well, but not in a while. Also love most other type of alcohol too. :D Wine, whisky, gin, you name it. Used to do more art myself, but nowadays mostly express myself through jiu-jitsu. Still draw a little in my spare time, like to take photos. (I'm a Designer by trade so that eats up some of that passion.) ![]() |

I love craft beers (drinking them) as well although I mostly enjoy the European imports including the UK stuff. Do you like ciders? My favourite was a Spanish cider when I lived in Spain but I mostly stick to Irish cider. I have one secret movie genre I love and mostly watch with my wife. French Romantic Comedies. I know its weak but can't get enough of them also the classic French Chansons (songs) are a big favourite. Good enough for Carlson Gracie, good enough for me. lol! (Edited 6 year(s) ago) |
"Do you like ciders? My favourite was a Spanish cider when I lived in Spain but I mostly stick to Irish cider." I almost always opt for beer over cider if there is a decent selection. Unless if I'm at English countryside and it's warm (so, almost never) and then it has to be as dry, cloudy & rustic as possible. Some friends have made pretty good stuff from their own apple crop. But my knowledge about ciders is rudimentary. |

Tastes very rustic and reminds me of fall. |
