I've been enjoying it waaaay more than Twitter. There aren't many BJJ people on there yet (mainly me, the Mental Models guy, a female black belt and a bunch of IT folks).

E.g , this is the #BJJ hashtag feed at the mo: https://mastodon.social/tags/BJJ

I never got on twitter since it seemed like a shit show 10 years ago - and well, now, it is lol

If Mastadon is cool and a social thing that isn't shitty please let me know.

Looks like BJJ Mental Models had a good deal for Mastodon users-- 60 day trial for their Discord and all that. I wonder if everyone went over there for a bit. I totally missed it!

I've never listened to a full episode. I fell out of the habit of listening to BJJ podcasts after the Fightworks Podcast (still by far the best one) stopped. ;)

It only occurred to me to listen to a BJJ podcast maybe two years ago during some downtime even though i love podcasts (and bjj). Of course some of that is being a woman, some of the sexism out there really grates on the ears/nerves and i try to avoid it, but he had a surprisingly good take on inclusivity and one of the sexual assault scandals (did not side with abusers). And then i heard one he did on pseudoscience or bullshido and i thought - is he my people?? I usually cannot keep from saying something even though I'm a bit shy if someone is going on about some fake cure, fad diet or misinformation:) Especially hocus pocus-ing ringworm. Not on my mat. I will buy you a tube of antifungal.

All the patreons are really hard though. If I gave money to all the podcasts I thought deserved it, I'd be broke. I wish I could. Plus I tend to only put essentials on autopay - recreational things i need to keep a closer watch - i can't do that for podcasts. If i had to pay for every website I visited, I'd probably stop using the internet. There used to be a thing called radio...lol. I know, that's different - and still there:) But also, i know there's labor in a podcast that needs to be paid for - I'm very much in support of workers being paid. A tough problem.

I do like how you can generally have a nice exchange with podcasters online as opposed to actors on tv or radio personalities - make the parasocial a little more social. Make the world less mean, more connected.

Yeah, the fact that I could go chat and train with Caleb was another thing I liked about the Fightworks Podcast, he then had me on as a guest for one of the later episodes.

There's a lot of pseudoscience bullshit in BJJ unfortunately.

I was asked to be on a podcast and i said naaa I'm not an expert in anything, lol, but i guess if you want to. Then told my background in a too long message (didn't even mention i have a black belt in Tang Soo Do as well) and they didn't get back to me. Unsurprisingly, lol. I'm not a great or inspirational speaker and wasn't sure what i could bring to the table, but i was happy to be asked:)
