If you never wear a belt as part of your grappling attire, is belt ranking really relevant?
Maybe beltchecker should have a "no belt" option. You could still post your comp videos, instructionals, bad-ass pics and share your awesome opinion with others on the forums.
You could say stuff like "I don't have rank in BJJ, but most people say I'm at purple belt level".

Is the most important part of your black belt to you that its holding your gi closed?

The point I'm making is probably more appropriate for another topic/discussion, so I'll try not to highjack the conversation.
But anybody who wears a gi can tell you that the belt (regardless of its color) really does a terrible job at keeping the gi closed :).

I get it you were thinking the other way around, but my point was that I don't believe the two sports can be merged just like that, either way. They have their own belt system and promotion authorities. For sure I can not promote anyone in Luta Livre, nor claim a belt for myself in their system without training with / being promoted by one of them.
