How does someone compete in NoGi Intermediate in 2020 at Brown Belt? Is this is a typo? 5 year(s) ago
Yes it was a typo. I changed it. It was suppose to be 2002. Thats what happens when I type to fast, my fingers are going but my brain wasn't. 5 year(s) ago
Please add pictures at each belt so we can verify you everything else looks good. 5 year(s) ago
I just started at a new gym under Steven "Prodigy" Williams. He was Renzo's youngest Black belt and he is nasty. I am excited to start rolling with these guys. I'm gonna get my ass kicked, but that is what I get for over working & under training. 4 year(s) ago |

I was promoted on a Saturday morning during an outside training session in the beginning of the month. I was so long ago I can not remember the exact day but I do remember he had me rolling for over 30 min straight doing a round robin that day I got promoted. This was just before Paulo went back to Brazil. I took sometime back in 2007 to train at Tiger Schulmans with Uriah Hall in Queens but after Uriah's Career took off I moved to upstate NY and began rolling 1-2 times per week again while working in PA. I was traveling to PA to train as I was doing a project out there for work for about 6 months and that is where I trained with Professor Rogerio Taborda. He actually refused to let me where my brown belt until I proved I was actually a brown belt since it had been sometime since I had trained Jiu Jitsu. After about 4 months he awarded me my Brown Belt again. Now my time is mainly dedicated to helping domestic violence survivors and their children recover from the abuse they suffered. I am actually putting an Empowerment program together for the families we serve. So training again fulltime has meaning again for me. To be honest I did lose sight of things for sometime which is why my training of the past years has been so on and off, but I have a much bigger reason to train now, to help change the lives of thesefamilies to hopefully give them a better chance at surviving an attack if it god forbid ever happens to one of them again and to help build their confidence. So taking time away from my businesses day to day so i can train is something I can rationalize now. I guess my priorities had changed for a while and saw it as more important to grow my business than train fulltime but now those 2 things have overlapped and I see even more clearly why my continued study of jiu jitsu is so important.

I dont remember the exact day of this promotion but I do remember it was around the time of my sons birthday and the day I got this promotion I got stung by a hornet and I was not feeling well at all. Paolo did not take pitty on me. He was very rough around the edges like that, a very tough guy that was not into excuses or sitting out unless you were really inured, not just hurt, so he made me train

I started training w/ Paulo while I was still training w/ Phil Dyer (One of Royces Guys). I met Paulo thru an ad I put out for employees and I lucked out having a guy work for me that was from the bitetti team and who was close friends with Marcos Santos. At the time I never rolled with someone as good as him. He and I trained everyday after work together for hours. I had my whole garage setup as a gym. To be one on one with him for years was amazing and I learned so much, so fast rolling with a guy who was so damn talented. Having private lessons everyday was invaluable. One thing I do remember, is as I got better and when it would take him time to tap me he would get so frustrated. He had a short fuse but none the less wasa great coach and great friend.

I was training with bart Vale in Miami at the same time as training with Phil who was under Royce Gracie. I ended up switching to BJJ from Shootfighting and it was love ever since. This date I never forgot because after I started BJJ & switched from Shootfighting, it was a day that stuck with me. I actually remember this day more clearly than I do get my Brown Belt. Phil was only able to take me so far because he was only a purple belt.
