N.J. native. Began training BJJ in Philadelphia at Maxercise under Steve Maxwell in '96/'97. At that time it was a Rorion Gracie affiliate, later a Relson Gracie affiliate. Moved to Balance studios in Philly under the Migliarese brothers (Relson affiliate). Moved to Florida in '04 and trained at ATT under Marcos da Matta (Parrumpinha). After a year I hung up the gi until 2018 when I began training again with my teen son at Gracie Barra WPB under Wally Holem (Carlson Gracie BB).

This is my best recollection of the date. It was just after Relson conducted a week-long seminar and I know I had been training consistently for almost two years. No ceremony so no pix. No cellphones! You would have had to have a film camera back in them days.
