I started training around 2009 and originally wanted to learn Muay Thai. I did one class of MT and the following day decided to try the BJJ class. I became more drawn to jiu-jitsu (initially) because of the interactive nature with other people. Now, I train more for the fun of it and its ability to empty my mind, for a few hours, during times when life gets a little stressful. Shortly after I received my blue belt (in 2011) I trained extremely infrequently/sporadically. Partly due to a combination of school, work and loss of motivation. In 2019, I made it a goal of mine to A) start training more again - at least once a week B) get my purple belt by the end of the year. I didn't reach goal B until last month but it still felt nice to accomplish a goal. As a sole hobbyist, I have gone back to training 2-3x/week and have rediscovered my passion for jiu-jitsu again.
